ACCOMPLISHMENTS

I’ve never been afraid to stand up for workers, and my track record as a union officer speaks for itself:

  • Successfully negotiated 14 contracts, all with pay increases! No ZEROS for HEROES!

  • Grew membership by adding two new properties and multiple new groups in existing bargaining units. When I began my first term as President, ATU757 had 22 represented properties. Today we have almost 30 showing about a 30% increase.

  • Expanded the ways we communicate information to members, implementing text messaging “flash updates”, revamping our website, rolling out a new email newsletter, and more “earned media” in the newspaper, on the radio, and on TV.

Despite the COVID pandemic, as President I’ve helped revitalize this union, expanding our organizing capacity by hiring key staff members, expanded our network of shop stewards in workplaces across Oregon and southern Washington, and ending the practice of cutting checks to politicians who do nothing for us.

  • Successfully fought multiple legal battles with our legal team, such as ULP's and arbitrations.

  • Helped bring four TriMet Operators back to work after being wrongfully terminated.

  • Brought Walla Walla Road Supervisors into the Union.

  • Won an arbitration for Canby MV Liaison Officer wrongfully terminated over a year including a cash settlement.

  • Streetcar Controllers re-bid to avoid training at Max.

  • Organized LTD Security Officers.

  • We’ve fought TriMet and won when their practice of stranding sick operators on the side of the road came to light

  • Helped restore some of what retirees have lost giving them better, more affordable health care options while reducing their out-of-pocket costs

  • Established a standing Paratransit Conference within the union to fight for issues specific to paratransit operators

  • Expanded the ways we communicate information to members, implementing text messaging “flash updates”, revamping our website, rolling out a new email newsletter, and more “earned media” in the newspaper, on the radio, and on TV

We are so much stronger than we were six years ago. We need to double down on our organizing and take this union to the next level. If you re-elect me as your President, that’s just what I’m going to do. Our communities depend on us. So let’s work together to build a member-driven grassroots democracy within this union!
